    COVID-19 Message to Families

    Hello Carver families,

In an effort to support continued learning and to stay connected during these unprecedented times, we are using the online platform of Google Classrooms for your student(s) to access information and resources. Teachers will continue to update their Google Classrooms with new assignments and/or opportunities to meet with the teacher online on a regular basis. Here you will find learning opportunities specific to you child's teacher which you will be able to access online. Please know that students are expected to log into their Google Classroom on a regular basis. While achievement reports and retention/promotion criteria are suspended for second semester, your students will get valuable feedback and learning that will help them to be prepared for the following grade level. You can expect your students to have about an hour (1/2 in ETK/TK/K) of work in ELA, an hour (1/2 in ETK/TK/K) of work in math, and about an hour (1/2 in ETK/TK/K)  of work in other subject areas (science, social studies, PE, art, etc.).

As we have learned in this new virtual learning, there are many ups and downs. Many of you are learning about bandwidth, Google Meet, and improving your tech skills. Our staff is learning along with you. During this time, please keep in mind this is a new experience for all of us, and if we all do our best while having lots of patience, we will make the most of these terrible times.

I speak for the entire staff when I say I miss seeing our students and families. Nothing can replace the energy students and teachers together bring to the classroom. We can never replicate the learning that would take place being with the teacher in class all day. What we can do is have leniency with the awareness that this pandemic is impacting lives in many different ways and we should not assume anything about anyone's circumstances.

In these trying times, what we have is each other. I know how difficult it gets at times with our students at home and taking care of older and immune compromised relatives. Check in on other members of our Carver community often. This will make sure we are okay as a community and help us to maintain human connections . The longer we stay at home to stay safe, the more important these connections will be.

Finally, always remember to pause, take a breath and take stock of what is truly important here. Your family and your health are what matter most so take advantage of this time that you have together, stay safe, wash often, and practice social distancing (6 feet apart).

We WILL get through this together.
